Kids Set Sail Instructor Position (Multiple Positions Available)

DC Sail is seeking enthusiastic sailors to become Instructors for our popular Kids Set Sail summer day camp. This is a perfect summer job for someone who loves sailing and wants to make a difference in the lives of local youth.  Kids Set Sail is a wonderful way to enjoy the DC summer season while keeping cool on the water!

Title: Kids Set Sail Instructor

Location: Diamond Teague Park Piers, 99 Potomac Avenue SE, Washington, DC 20003

Hours: Monday – Friday 9 AM – 4 PM / (tentative Training Week - June 16th) – KSS Summer Camps - June 23rd through August 15th

Supervises: Campers ages 7-15 

Wage Range: $18 to $25 per hour depending on certifications, experience, tenure, etc.

(This is considered a part-time seasonal position with no benefits.)

Purpose: This program offers a week-long camp intended for children ages 7-15 where they learn the basics of sailing in a fun environment. Kids Set Sail aims to introduce students to the waterways of Washington, DC through the sport of sailing.

General Description: Throughout the day campers will practice drills, play games, and learn maritime lessons both on and off the water. Responsibilities include preparing for and conducting camp lessons, providing a safe and fun environment for learning, and giving constructive feedback to sailors. Instructors will report directly to the Kids Set Sail Director.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Age 16+
  • Flying Scot, Flying Junior and/or related general sailing experience
  • Experience supervising and working with youth (includes camps, child care, etc.)
  • Current CPR/First Aid (or ability to acquire prior to start of season)

Preferred Requirements:

  • Ability to commit to all nine weeks of the program will be given priority consideration
  • Power boating experience
  • US Sailing Level 1 Certification
  • US Sailing Safe Power Boating
  • US Sailing SafeSport Certification (or ability to acquire prior to start of season.)
  • Note: Employment contingent on full background check
